Benefits of CBD
Although there has been a considerable amount of awareness brought to CBD in the media and online some people still find it hard to understand what exactly CBD is. People often refer to CBD as if it is the plant itself. It is not, CBD is short for Cannabidiol, just one of the many beneficial chemical compounds found in the Cannabis Sativa plant. There are over 30 compounds that we know of to date.
Another issue worthy of noting is that people still find it hard to distinguish the difference between Hemp and Marijuana. Both are Cannabis plants however the Hemp plant is high in the compound CBD and low in the compound THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) Whereas, Marijuana is opposite in that its low in the compound CBD and high in the compound TCH.
Our goal at Kannabliss Exotics is to help the public better understand that they do not have to rely on synthetic drugs when it comes to their health. CBD is just one of the many natural components in Cannabis with amazing health benefits. CBD does not have psychoactive effects and THC does. CBD also has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-anxiety properties. Studies suggest all the natural compounds in hemp work together creating an entourage effect. This means the tiny amounts of THC could enhance the action of CBD, but will not get you “high”. The amount of THC found in hemp is under .03% which is why it is not possible. Even though this is a tiny amount it’s important to note if you are worried about failing a drug test be sure to use hemp products that are 0% THC as it is a very small chance that you could fail it.
A brief history of cannabis
According to research, it is believed that Cannabis originated from Central Asia. From there it was introduced to other regions such Africa, Europe and eventually the Americas. Hemp fiber was used to make clothing, paper, sails and rope, while its seeds were used as food.
Because it’s a fast-growing plant that’s easy to cultivate and has many uses, hemp was widely grown throughout colonial America and at Spanish missions in the Southwest. In the early 1600s, the Virginia, Massachusetts and Connecticut colonies required farmers to grow hemp.
Fast forward to today, and farmers are eager to learn more about the crop and its potential benefits. The Farm Bill in 2014 allowed states to license farmers to legally grow hemp.
Four years passed, and the 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law. Hemp was removed from the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) list of controlled substances. Now farmers are able to grow hemp in a normal crop program similar to soybeans, corn, etc
What are the advantages of CBD on pets?
Before going any further, it is very important to note that research into CBD for pets has not gotten the attention it needs or deserves from researchers. With that said, the FDA has not yet approved its use on people or pets. It will be up to you to do your due diligence and read up on it yourself and talk with your veterinarian about the best options for you and your fur baby. Some people who have tried it have claimed it to be very effective in helping fight several conditions such as seizures, anxiety and chronic pain.
Is CBD safe?
According to a recent article written by Peter Grinspoon MD for Harvard University, “CBD has been touted for a wide variety of health issues, but the strongest scientific evidence is for its effectiveness in treating some of the cruelest childhood epilepsy syndromes, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), which typically does not respond to antiseizure medications. In numerous studies, CBD was able to reduce the number of seizures, and, in some cases, stop them altogether. Epidiolex, which contains CBD, is the first cannabis-derived medicine approved by the FDA for these conditions.” It continues with the following Animal studies, and self-reports or research in humans, suggest CBD may also help with: Anxiety~ Studies and clinical trials are exploring the common report that CBD can reduce anxiety. Insomnia~Studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep. Chronic pain~ Further studies are needed to substantiate claims that CBD helps control pain.
One animal study from the European Journal of Pain suggests CBD could help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis when applied to skin. Other research identifies how CBD may inhibit inflammatory and neuropathic pain, which are difficult to treat. Addiction~ CBD may help lower cravings for tobacco, heroin, alcohol, opiates, and other stimulants. CBD can increase the level of blood thinning. Specifically if you are taking any medications for the liver. It can interfere by competing for the liver enzymes that break down these drugs. Grapefruit has a similar effect with certain medicines.
People taking CBD may show abnormalities in liver related blood tests. Some non-prescription drugs, such as acetaminophen or Nsaids have this same effect. So, be sure to let your doctor know before you start a CBD regimen.
